Schloss Mannheim
When we first encountered the project of virtually reconstructing the historical rooms at Mannheim Palace, particularly Elector Carl Philipps’ bedroom, we were immediately captivated. The challenge was not just about restoring a room, but about bringing a historical moment back to life, with a special focus on the intricately designed ceiling captured in photos just before its destruction.
This project was unique because it required us to combine historical accuracy with creative innovation. We needed to craft a virtual environment that was both immersive and educational, with the ceiling of Carl Philipps’ bedroom as the focal point. The “Dollhouse Principle” emerged from our brainstorming sessions, allowing viewers to explore the rooms as if peering into a dollhouse, observing details from above or interacting with them directly.
The result was not just a digital reconstruction but an experience designed specifically for both VR and 2D formats. The content was thoughtfully selected to suit each medium perfectly, allowing audiences to engage with the historical setting in the most fitting way.
