Archäologische Zeitmaschine
Archaeological time machine
We are excited to present our collaborative project with the Altertumskommission für Westfalen and the LWL-Archäologie für Westfalen: “Archaeological Time Travel.” This initiative, launched in 2022 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the commission, offers a unique VR experience that brings historical events to life.
Visitors can embark on a virtual journey to witness the construction of the Großsteingrab “Große Sloopsteene” in Lotte-Wersen around 3500 BC, the arrival of thousands of legionaries at the Roman camp in Haltern in 11 BC, and the siege of Holsterburg in Warburg in 1294. These meticulously created VR films provide an immersive glimpse into these pivotal moments in history.
The project required two years of preparation, ensuring that each detail in the VR films was historically accurate. This initiative aims to bring archaeology to the public in an engaging and accessible manner, supported by a comprehensive outreach program that includes stops in multiple cities and an interactive social media campaign.
In addition to the VR films, the exhibition features a replica of the iconic DeLorean time machine from “Back to the Future,” providing a tangible connection to the theme of time travel. This innovative approach not only educates but also entertains, making the wonders of archaeology accessible to a broad audience.
We are proud to have played a part in this pioneering project, using our expertise in virtual reality and historical reconstruction to make the past vividly come alive for today’s audiences.
