The Wittelsbachs on the Rhine: The Electorate of the Palatinate and Europe

For the 2013 special exhibition at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museums in Mannheim, we reconstructed the city of Mannheim through various historical periods. Our work included a virtual boat tour on the River Rhine and a detailed reconstruction of Heidelberg Castle, complete with its eventual destruction.

The exhibition, “Die Wittelsbacher am Rhein | The Wittelsbachs on the Rhine,” spanned nearly 600 years of Wittelsbach rule in the Rhine-Neckar region, from 1214 to 1803. It was showcased at two locations: the Museum Zeughaus and the Baroque Palace in Mannheim. The exhibition highlighted the significant impact of the Wittelsbach dynasty on the region’s history and culture, emphasizing the Palatinate and its connection to Europe.

Our virtual reconstructions offered visitors an immersive experience, allowing them to witness key historical moments, such as the medieval city of Mannheim, the grandiosity of Heidelberg Castle, and the bustling activity along the Rhine. This project exemplifies our commitment to bringing history to life through advanced 3D animations and virtual reality technology.
